FISHER?KEYS: Hi I am now 77 and living in Hastings..but..was evacuated to Cranbrook in 1939 with my younger brother and we were put with Mr and Mrs Fisher who lived in the High Street where now stands a super market.It was then Cranside.We did have a wonderful time there and the Fisher family made us one of them.We returned home in1942 as I was to be apprenticed and start work on the London Thames.My name is Keys and would love to hear from anyone who remembers some of those days. email brubaker_9@msn.com

HOBBS: i am looking to contact anybody who is related to (or knows of) the hobbs who used to live in cranbrook around the late 1700's through the mid to late 1800s. joseph was my gr-gr-gr-grandfather and was born around 1820. he was a cordwainer/bootmaker/leather cutter according to the various census reports. i believe his father was william smith hobbs and i would like to try and discover who william's wife was as well as both of their families heading backwards. joseph's wife was sophia usherwood; they married in december 1844 and had, amongst others, my gr-gr-grandmother kate clara hobbs. if someone has some information could they please contact me at londoner62@hotmail.com many thanks, paul moxham"

TYLER: I am searching for the ancestors of job tyler, born in cranbrook c1621 probably died mendon, massachusetts, usa c1700. the family is well researched in the usa, but very little is known of the family in the uk. from his father's will we know that his father was laurence tyler died 1663 cranbrook, mother dorothy, siblings: rebecca page, john tyler, moses tyler, mary potter. we also know laurence had land in cranbrook and staplehurst. all of us researching the tyler family would appreciate any information. thanks. bruce tyler email: user17940@comcast.net

LUCK: I'm looking for information about dinah luck, born 1827 somewhere in kent. she married thomas mills before emigrating to the us in about 1850. i believe she worked for the whiteley family in ashford as there is a listing in the 1841 census there. their first son was born there in 1848. they are my great-grandparents who eventually moved to michigan, where i was born. any leads about the family will be appreciated. AUNTIE LAURIE: Together with my parents and two sisters I spent a short holiday at Willsley Pound in 1948. We stayed in what my eldest sister believed to be the second cottage from the right at Wilsley Pound (facing from the road) with an Auntie Laurie. We cannot discover who she might have been. Our Mother was Violet Jenner, daughter of Harry and Matilda Emily Jenner so we assume there might have been a Jenner connection. Can anyone remember our Auntie Laurie? WILDING: I am researching the wilding (wyldinge or wiledinge) family in the cranbrook-goudhurst-frittenden-headcorn areas. earliest documented family member is thomas wilding, son of thomas, born in cranbrook in 1693. ultimately the george wilding family of headcorn left for america in 1850. spouse surnames throughout the years include popper, watcherst, gur, poole and trost. i would love to hear from any living relatives, as well as any additional family information anyone would care to share. i would be happy to share the information i have gathered on the wildings in america. many thanks, roger. email rgerhardt@charter.net.

HENDLE: Hendle family history from cranbrook my great was william hendle born 1831 london married and died as lighthouse keeper in new zealand...his family tree leads me to cranbrook. medieval wills of kent on the net, wills of john hendle died 8 nov 1472, brother thomas hendle died 1495 buried st dunston cranbrook,robert/richard hendle had land cranbrook. family name is gervase (spellings hendle/y died 1532 buried st thomas cranbrook. famous sons were sir walter hendle bc 1508 d 1550 whose 3 daughters eliz married sir wm waller and sir george fane, eleyn married thomas culpepper and sir thomas fane, ann married sir richard covert. this huge family tree seemed to own all of cranbrook, sissinghurst with agnes hendle married to sir richard baker who died in 1594, the windmill was inherited by the family and on the info goes on the old medival wills. i see you have hendley street cranbrook and wonder if someone knows if that was where all the land was. where can i get to find more info on the hendles thanks sandra in nz email greig.family@xtra.co.nz

DYKE FAMILY: message: dyke family: i am trying to find any information on the dyke family who lived at 17 high street,cranbrook in the 1861 census. sarah dyke was detailed as " grocer-retailer of beer" she had a daughter jane who was her assistant and george mcgregor dyke (son) was and apprentice currier, james, a harness maker and charles an apprentice cabinet maker. unfortunately i cannot find the name of sarah's husband as he was deceased before 1861. i think it could have been george, as it seems to be a family trait to give the eldest son the second name of mcgregor and the first name of george. my late father was alexander mcgregor dyke (breaking the legend) - i never knew him and am only now finding out my family history. i would be most grateful if anyone could assist me. thanking you. erica mcadam: email: charles@mcadam3.freeserve.co.uk

PIPER FAMILY: I am researching family history.james Piper storekeeper, born at Cranbrook September 30th 1824. He was a grocer in Tooley Street, Southwark in 1852 at the time of his marriage to Elizabeth Allender. James parents were Thomas Piper, a Bailiff & Mercy Craddick from Staplehurst. James Piper also a Draper in Maidstone for 10 years c. 1847. Some Piper & Allender Family emmigrated to Australia in 1857 & pursued soap making & drapery shops/business. Can you help? CRAMP family:. My research indicates that my great-grandfather (and his three brothers) were all born in Sandhurst. My great-great grandmother, Mary Harmer-Cramp, died in 1842, and her death was registered in Cranbrook. My great-great grandfather,Thomas, died in the Cranbrook Union Workhouse in 1882 at age 87. Please advise me where to find out if they have grave stones or were buried in Potter's Field as they were of very modest means. Just what is the Cramp Institute Club? MOSELEY family:Any more information please: My gt gt grandafther William Honis MOSELEY born Cranbrook c 1819 and emigrated to NSW AUS in 1851 after being married to Hannah CAULSON,a widow M/S DENNIS,in Plumstead in 1849. MANKTELOW:I am trying to trace ancestors of the Manktelow family, in particular Edith Jane Moore (nee Manktelow) she lived at 3 the cotages the hill. SAWYER FAMILY: I have ancestors who lived in Cranbrook and it's surrounding area and would love any help anyone could give me. Thomas Sawyer was a "Farmer" born c1773 in Lydd, Kent and his wife was Sarah Ann a "School Mistress" born c1811 in Northiam, Sussex. Their address at the time of the 1851 census was 48 Benenden Village. Does this address still exist? Does the Schoolhouse she may have worked at still exist? Where might the farm have been? Charles was a bricklayer and I noticed that in the 1861 census that the Marshall's in Cranbrook were nearly all Bricklayers, were they related to Charles? He married Daisy Jane Funnell and they had 8 children. James Honeysett worked at Glassonbury park as a gardener. VILLIERS: my great great grandfather,Frederick Villiers Hill, lived in Cranbrook in the 1890s and died in Cranbrook in 1904,aged 67. He is shown on the 1901 census as living at 96 Stone Street and whilst previously he was a soldier he was shown on the census as being a shopkeeper “on own account”. THE RANGER NAME:. I am trying to trace the family details of my Ranger ancesters, particularly Joseph Ranger, born Cranbrook 10.10.1822. His father, a Surgeon was also Joseph. GUEST FAMILY I am trying to find information about my Grandmother who was born in Cranbrook in 1894. Her name was Ethel Guest who later married Frank Edgar Potter. They had 6 children - the only surviving child is my mother Dora. They later lived in Plaxtol, at Winfield Mill, but my grandmother died when she was only 34, which meant the children were split up and fostered around that area. AMOS FAMILY I am researching he Amos family tree. I live in Cranbrook Tasmania Australia,in Cranbrook House 1833, after which this tiny farming hamlet was named. Family lore says John Amos the first settler [arrived Tasmania in 1822] named it for his wife Hannah from where she came from.She was thought to be nee Hardy but we think now nee Berridge from Derbyshire!. But I have been unable to establish a connection. John Amos was a millwright and bulit 2 mills still standing here and I wondered if perhaps he worked or built your historic Mill? Cranbrook had to be of significance to name his House and farm after it?

THELMA NORRIS: I went to school at Cranbrook in 1940- 1942 and have many fond memories of the town and the school. My brother Harry Morris went to Cranbrook School at this time. Charles & Mary's children (that I know of): James (agric lab) b. 1858/63 (my gt g'f) Cranbrook, Richard (agric lab) b. 1867 (Cranbrook), James = Annie Burgess (from Tenterden) and moved around to Bidenden Sissinghurst Egerton.
James & Annie's children: William H.G.Williams b. Cranbrook, Henry John & Richard b. Sissinghurst, Emily & Charles b. Bidenden, Kate- Frederick James-& Nellie (Mary?) b. Egerton
Charles was in the Cranbrook workhouse in 1901 census.
