Mark Hudson - Kent County Council Community Safety Warden

The aim of my role is to 'Create safer and stronger communities', thereby enabling the people of Cranbrook to live safely and independently in their neighbourhoods and communities.

 There are many ways in which we work to achieve this aim. We are committed to;

 Building confidence and reassurance

Working in Partnership with Kent Police, Local Authorities and other agencies

Making best use of resources

Promoting Community solidarity and encouraging communities to identify and solve problems.

Provide a reassuring and conspicuous presence

Tackling anti-social behaviour

Acting as 'eyes and ears' for other agencies

Being a trusted friend for the community

Improving access to local services

Promoting social inclusion

 As a Community Warden I represent all the residents of Cranbrook on behalf of Kent County Council in the following aspects of my role;

 I provide a visible presence throughout the streets of Cranbrook, whilst also spending part of my day in schools and residential homes to ensure the widest possible contact with all members of public. This gives me the opportunity to provide lots of reassurance, give advice and gain vital information on crime within Cranbrook.

 I aim to provide reassurance and education for the community on keeping property safe. I work with the younger members of our community educating them on the importance of road safety and stranger danger and aim to spend time with our elder members providing information on doorstop crime, bogus callers and rogue traders.

 I am currently available at a Thursday morning drop in session in Cranbrook Library and at the Weald Information Centre on Friday if you wish to drop by and introduce yourself or have something you wish to speak to me about. This is an ideal opportunity to speak about any local issues that are affecting you and if I am unable to deal with them I have other a bodies such as the Police and Local Authorities that may be able to assist. I also have access to a wide range of safety leaflets that you can take away and are able to recommend services such as HandyVan that might be available to you.

 As a Community Warden we do not have any enforcement powers, however as part of out remit we work in close Partnership with the Police Officer and Police Community Support Officer for Cranbrook and other agencies such as Kent Fire & Rescue, Social Services, Education Board, Cranbrook Parish Council and Town &

Country Housing.
